The art world has come so far and produced so much in the past decades, it's easy to look back and find little left to achieve. Stylistic conventions in every medium collapsed nearly a century ago. For decades since, artists have been rebuilding and breaking down these conventions over and over again. Silence as music, and life as art are dated concepts. So is multimedia and interactive technology. We have reached a point where the phrase, "theres nothing new under the sun," has taken on new meaning, where we call anything art regardless of its purpose for being. It is at this point, when the role of art in society is more undefined but also critical than ever, that Aytia|Matia has come to exist.
As a group of young artists and technicians, Aytia|Matia doesn't see the next trend in art as the creation of a new medium or the reinvention of an old one. Aytia|Matia recognizes the obvious: the future of art is going to be a fusion of them all. The communication revolution, of which we are all a part, has provided us with unprecedented ways to mix mediums. And Aytia|Matia hopes to become the premiere mixed-media art group in the world. Unlike conventional mixed-media, which pairs video and music in performance, Aytia|Matia works with sensory materials in their rawest forms, blending them so seamlessly they become one. Imagine Aytia|Matia as a painter, only instead of colored paints, their pallette consists of sound, video, touch and smell, and instead of a canvas, their work exists in time, as an experience that can be shared but not taken home.
If, at this time, it seems difficult to imagine what an Aytia|Matia event might actually look or sound like, that is ok because after you experience one, you will never forget what it felt like.
